It wasn't all doom and gloom for the Edmonton Oilers against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

EDMONTON -- A 6-3 loss is certainly a generous result.

The Edmonton Oilers came out flat against a more prepared Toronto Maple Leafs team. At least prepared in the sense of being ready to play once the puck dropped.
The first two periods of the contest were dominated by the home team - despite the shots being relatively close (21-23 in favor of the Maple Leafs). While there is much to pick apart from their loss, there are a few positives to glean from the game.

While they didn't do themselves any favors through the first 40 minutes, they tried to remedy that in the last 20. Zach Hyman, Corey Perry and Leon Draisaitl scored in the final frame to make the game interesting.
Connor McDavid was doing what he could to will the team back into the game. He collected three assists in last night's game - all in the third period.
With those assists, he has reached a career milestone for the second time. McDavid now has 89 assists on the season, tying the career high that he set last year.

To put that into better context - McDavid now has more assists on the season than most NHLers have points. There are nine players who have more than 89 points: Nikita Kucherov, Nathan MacKinnon, Artemi Panarin, David Pastrnak, Mikko Rantanen, William Nylander, Auston Matthews, Leon Draisaitl and J.T. Miller.
He also has nine points in his last three games, a trend the Oilers hope continues into tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators.
