EDMONTON -- The second round of playoff hockey has officially begun.

Even though one game has already been played of the second round, the Edmonton Oilers and Vancouver Canucks don't play until Wednesday night. The New York Rangers won their first game against the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3.
The Oilers and Canucks finally have their full schedule for the second round - which was held up by the Dallas Stars vs Vegas Golden Knights series. If the Golden Knights won, the Oilers series would start on Tuesday - if the Stars won, it would be Wednesday.

The Stars won.
In doing so the Stars have become a hero of sorts in this post season - primarily because of how the Golden Knights are perceived around the league. Hockey fans (in general) are not Golden Knights fans. Their perceived bending of the rules regarding Long Term Injured Reserve has left a sour taste in the mouths of many fans of the sport.
Oilers fans feel a particular sting in regards to the Golden Knights - primarily because Jonathan Marchessault appeared on the Spittin Chiclets podcast and said that the Oilers series, "has to be the hardest matchup we had."
With that feather in their cap, it would have made for a great story to see these two teams meet again in the playoffs. Now it's going to have to wait for another year.
Until then - hockey fans who don't like the Golden Knights will continue on as usual, but maybe with a little bit more pep in their step. Until then the Oilers gear up for their all-Canadian second round matchup against the Canucks.
