Women's hockey is coming to Edmonton in February.

On Wednesday, the Professional Women's Hockey League announced that Rogers Place will host the Ottawa Charge and Toronto Sceptres on February 16th as part of their Takeover Tour through nine non-PWHL cities.

The PWHL had originally announced eight stops, ranging from Seattle to Quebec City. But after an appearance on Sportsnet's broadcast of the Oilers-Senators game on Tuesday, Charge forward Danielle Serdachny teased that Edmonton might be next on the list.

The Edmonton-born Serdachny was drafted 2nd overall by the Ottawa Charge in this summer's PWHL draft after a standout career at Colgate University and scoring the golden goal for Canada at the 2024 Women's World Championships. In July, Serdachny was named as an ambassador for the Oilers' girls hockey initiative, Every Kid Deserves A Shot.

The PWHL's inaugural season last year was a rousing success, setting attendance records at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and Bell Centre in Montreal, as well as playing neutral-site games in Detroit and Pittsburgh's NHL rinks.

This year's Edmonton game will feature last season's regular-season champions, the Toronto Sceptres, against their provincial rival the Ottawa Charge.

Toronto boasts one of the most star-studded lineups in the league, featuring reigning MVP Natalie Spooner, Oiler Darnell Nurse's cousin Sarah Nurse, and multiple Team Canada standouts including Blayre Turnbull, Jocelyne Larocque, Renata Fast, and Kristen Campbell.

Ottawa is looking to bounce back following a disappointing inaugural season where they finished 5th in the 6-team league. They're led by Serdachny, veteran superstar Brianne Jenner, and Alberta-born netminder Emerance Maschmeyer.

With the league already looking to expand for the 2025-26 season, February's showcase could be an audition for a possible Edmonton franchise somewhere down the line. Calgary, Quebec City, Pittsburgh, and Detroit have all been cited as possibilities for this first round of expansion.

Tickets for the game on February 16th will be available for pre-sale on Thursday, November 21st. The 30-game PWHL regular season gets underway on November 30th.
