Today the Edmonton Oilers announced (through the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, EOCF) the launch of a new girls hockey initiative. This initiative will be a part of their Every Kid Deserves a shot.

Every Kid Deserves a Shot is aimed at empowering youth to pursue hockey, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

According to the Oilers press release the initiative will, "remove barriers that limit female participation, provide opportunities for girls and highlight the incredible achievements of girls and women in sports. The goal is to support girls throughout their hockey journey and help increase sustainability in girls hockey through programs like First Shift, Colby's Kids, and Oilers Hockey school, and partners like Hockey Alberta, Hockey Edmonton, KidSport, Free Play for Kids and Sport Central."

"Our goal is to create a complete ecosystem for girls in Oil Country, where we support them every step of the way -- from equipment and their First Shift on the ice, to wherever their hockey journey may take them."

Edmonton native, Danielle Serdachny will become the first ever female ambassador of Every Kid Deserves a Shot. She will join the other ambassadors, Georges Laraque, Ladislav Smid and Chris Joseph.

Serdachny was recently on the Gold-medal winning Team Canada at the World Championship this past April. She scored the game-winning overtime goal to secure the medal for Canada.

Additionally she was selected 2nd overall in the 2024 PWHL draft by Ottawa. She is coming off of a season where she recorded 61 points in 40 games at the Collegiate level. She has spent the last five seasons playing for Colgate University.
