Elsewhere around the league, there are some intense things happening in other series'. The Eastern Conference in particular has been fascinating.
The Washington Capitals snuck into the 2024 playoffs and found themselves playing the New York Rangers in the first round. Going into today the Rangers were up 3-0 on the Capitals.

Today's game didn't go the way the Capitals wanted from the opening puck drop. They found themselves in a hole 57 seconds into the first period - when Kaapo Kakko scored his first goal of the post season.
Ultimately, the Capitals lost and ended up being swept by the Rangers. Alex Ovechkin didn't register a goal - or a point in today's game. This was the first time in his whole career that this happened during the playoffs.
Ethan Bear - former Oilers defenseman - didn't dress at all in today's game. In fact, he hasn't played in a game since mid-March.
He entered the NHLPA players assistance program on March 27th. Hopefully everything is well with Bear and his family. There are more important things than hockey - and hopefully Bear is getting whatever he needs from the program.
