Cross one Edmonton Oilers forward target off of the trade board.
EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers are getting ready to play their final game against the Boston Bruins this year.

Earlier in the day Derek Ryan replaced Sam Gagner in the lineup - and then they promptly put Gagner on waivers. The sense is that putting Gagner on waivers frees up the Oilers to finalize a trade and not need to wait for Gagner to go down to the AHL between now and Friday.
The Oilers are rumored to be involved in trade discussions with many teams about many players. Jake Guentzel, Tyler Toffoli, Jordan Eberle and Pavel Buchnevich are just a few of the names the Oilers are connected to.
There is another one who was just traded.
The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired former Detroit Red Wings forward Anthony Mantha. Mantha was having a rebound season with the Washington Capitals. He has 34 points in 56 games. The last time he had this many points was back in 2019-20 when he had 38 points in 43 games for the Red Wings.
It's now being reported that the return for Mantha is a 2024 2nd round pick and a 2026 4th round pick. The Capitals will retain 50% of Mantha's $5.7-million cap hit.
While this doesn't necessarily count them out of the running for any of the other wingers - it certainly makes the chances of them acquiring another big fish just a little less likely.
