In addition to offering an extension to Connor McDavid and keeping Evan Bouchard in an Oilers jersey, the team is facing some decisions regarding the coaching staff.
The latest episode of 32 Thoughts was released on Sunday morning of June 29th. In that episode he shared some thoughts on the situation surrounding the Oilers and Kris Knoblauch’s staff.
“Some of their other assistant coaches need contracts,” Friedman reported. “Glen Gulutzan is still in the Dallas job picture. I would expect the Stars to decide this sometime early this week, if it’s Gulutzan or Neil Graham.”
This has been reported on a bit already, with Stan Bowman himself chiming in on the topic. But there was another detail Friedman mentioned that caught this listener’s attention.
“I do think that Edmonton is considering a change at the goalie coach position.”
This is a drum that some Oilers fans have been pounding at for years. The Oilers current goalie coach is Dustin Schwartz, who joined the organization in November of 2014. He has been with the organization longer than several coaches and GMs.
It’s Knoblauch’s opportunity to fill out his coaching staff. There’s a decent chance that Mark Stuart stays, while everyone else finds new opportunities elsewhere. My suspicion regarding Paul Coffey is that Knoblauch will bring him back if he wants to come back. Otherwise, a new coach there will be on the to-do list.
The season of changes continues.
