After a regular-season resurgence but a quiet postseason in Edmonton, the versatile forward secures a significant raise to join Auston Matthews and a revamped Maple Leafs roster.

In a development that will surprise few Oilers fans, Jack Roslovic is leaving the Edmonton Oilers and signing a deal with another team. That team is the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he'll be making $4 million per season for two years.

It's a raise for Roslovic, who signed a one-year deal with the Oilers on the first day of the regular season last summer. He tried his hand at free agency, but when he was passed over on the bigger deal he wanted — including passing up a reasonable deal from the Oilers — he signed a cheap one-year contract worth $1.5 million, arriving without training camp after weighing his options in his hometown of Columbus.

Roslovic was solid during the regular season, but disappeared in the playoffs. He scored 21 goals and 36 points in 69 games while filling a checking-and-secondary-scoring role alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, even without significant power-play time. But when the games mattered most, that offense dried up — he managed just a single assist in six playoff games as the Oilers were bounced in the first round.

Now 29, Roslovic gets a fresh start in Toronto, joining a Maple Leafs roster that's been reshaping itself aggressively under new GM John Chayka this offseason. Apparently, he is close with Auston Matthews, which might have contributed to him getting a slot on the roster.

He projects as a versatile middle-six piece who can play center or wing, adding secondary scoring depth without requiring a top-line role — a similar part to the one he played in Edmonton, just at nearly triple the price.

It continues a well-traveled career that's already included stops in Winnipeg, Columbus, the Rangers and Carolina since he was drafted 25th overall in 2015.
