For tonight's game against the Washington Capitals will see the Edmonton Oilers play without one of their best defenders.
EDMONTON -- Tonight the Edmonton Oilers will play at home for the first time in just over a week.
After having a day off on Monday and then a practice day yesterday, the Oilers are primed to take on the Washington Capitals.

When they do they'll be without top defenseman Mattias Ekholm.
Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 and The Nation Network reported the possibility earlier today - and then confirmed it a few hours later.
The only other time that Ekholm has missed a game was the season opener. The Oilers famously lost that game 8-1. In hindsight, that was a sign of things to come for the team.
Ekholm has been a rock for the Oilers this season. In 62 games played he's collected 28 points while playing 20:56 on average per night.

We will wait to see what happens with the defense pairings tonight. Troy Stecher will slot in and play his first official game with the Oilers.
