EDMONTON -- Like it or not, officiating is an important part of the game.

The Edmonton Oilers only received one power play during Game one - while the Dallas Stars were gifted with five. The Oilers penalty kill was on fire, not allowing a single goal against while down a player.
The referees for tonight's game will be Garrett Rank and Jean Hebert. As a duo they have already officiated one game together - the Oilers 5-1 Game six victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

For the Stars they officiated Game five of their series against the Vegas Golden Knights (3-2 win) and Game 5 versus the Colorado Avalanche (5-3 loss).
They also officiated Game two of the Boston Bruins series against the Florida Panthers. A grand total of 12 misconduct penalties were handed out during that game. That isn't the only time Rank has dished out penalties to clean up the ice.
In an infamous game during the regular season between the Panthers and Ottawa Senators - everyone on the ice was called for a misconduct.

For a playoff game this approach to penalties can often be useful - in order to settle down games that turn rowdy in a hurry.
During the regular season this year the Oilers had a record of 2-3-1 and 2-4-0 with Rank and Hebert respectively. For the Stars they have a record of 2-2-1 and 4-2-0 with Rank and Hebert respectively.
This will be the first time in Rank's career that he has officiated a game in the conference final.
