EDMONTON -- They say laughter is the best medicine.

Maybe that's true when there has been enough time for an emotional wound to heal. For the Edmonton Oilers, their wound of losing Game seven of the Stanley Cup Final is still fresh.

The 2024 ESPYS were handed out on July 11th. It is an awards show that recognizes the best players, teams and moments in the entire sports world.
Connor McDavid took home the award for Best NHL player. This is the third year in a row where he won the award.
Comedian Nikki Glaser presented the award for Best Male Athlete. Shohei Ohtani, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Mahomes and McDavid were all nominated for the honor.
Before Glaser presented that award, she took a playful jab at the Oilers and McDavid.
She talked about losing to the Florida Panthers and the next Stanley Cup that McDavid will lift, "what I'm trying to say is that nothing will stand in the way of these incredible athletes and their pursuit of greatness, except the Florida Panthers. Boy, Connor that must have hurt. To lose a game of ice hockey to a place that doesn't even have ice."
"For now, the only Stanley Cup that Connor will get to hold is the one his wife gets him to grab out of the cabinet."

Low murmurs were scattered amongst the crowd. Glaser broke out into a smile, stifled a laugh, then said, "but let's get to it."
It's probably too early for the players to be able to laugh at that joke. Hockey fans, and Oilers fans, should not feel guilty about laughing at a harmless jab.
I'm sure McDavid was laughing along, while plotting his revenge tour for next season.
