With the Stanley Cup awarded and the height of free agency in the rearview, the summer begins. The Edmonton Oilers had a tremendous season and playoff run. Their first day of free agency restored belief in their ability to sign depth players to incredibly team friendly contracts.

The Oilers still need to sign their two RFA's, but the bulk of their offseason work is done. Now comes the fun part for Oilers fans - predictions for next season.

Many fans have taken to social media to share what they think the Oilers roster could look like on opening night for 2024-25. Just today Bob Stauffer decided to share his thoughts too.

For those without Twitter, here is what Stauffer thinks the forward lines could be:

Having Jeff Skinner with Connor McDavid makes a lot of sense. You have a pure scorer with one of the best playmakers to ever enter the NHL. Having Ryan Nugent-Hopkins flank Leon Draisaitl with Viktor Arvidsson on his other wing, also makes sense.

Kris Knoblauch will have time to tinker around with line combinations once training camp starts. He showed a willingness to stick with what works. He also displayed an ability to make adjustments depending on the opponent, and several other major factors.

The biggest absence from this line combination prediction is Evander Kane. In the tweet Stauffer wrote, "not sure where Evander Kane is health-wise right now," as the reason for leaving him off of his list.

Oilers fans will need to wait around three months before seeing what the Oilers line combinations could be. There is a lot that could change from now till then. The Oilers are around $2.5-million over the salary cap ceiling. They also need a new General Manager. Both of those things will need to be sorted out before this team hits the ice again.
