    EDMONTON – Reminders are beneficial.

The Edmonton Oilers need reminders every once in a while. Coaches and significant others can support the players in a way that helps them play up to their potential during stretches when they aren't.

Reminders are also good for fans. The Hockey News Edmonton Oilers team site is bringing back weekly news recaps to ensure you don't miss a thing.

Kicking things off was the aftermath of the biggest deal the Oilers made at this year's deadline. Jake Walman was the big fish acquired by Stan Bowman this season, and he made his presence felt in the first game he played for the Oilers. The defender finished the game with one assist, three shots, three blocks, and two hits in 24:40 en route to a 5-4 Oilers win.

    Trending Oilers Stories

Oilers top forward prospect Sam O'Reilly had a game to remember on Sunday night. After recording his first OHL hat trick ever just over a week prior, he scored his second hat trick on March 9th.

During his weekly visit on Oilers Now, the radio show hosted by Bob Stauffer, former Oilers player/coach/GM Craig McTavish shared a story about Matthew Tkachuk during his draft year. Apparently, after having dinner at McTavish's house, Tkachuk was convinced that the Oilers were going to draft him.

Goaltending has been a hot topic around the Oilers this season. When it's been good, no one seems to say anything (myself included). When it's been bad, it's been bad. A prime example was the 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Starting netminder Stuart Skinner had three goals scored on him on 23 shots.

Speaking of goaltending, one Oilers goalie prospect had quite the week. Samuel Jonsson is an Oilers draft pick from the 2022 entry draft. He may not be signed by the team, but they would be foolish not to offer him an entry-level deal. After all, the 21-year-old netminder was just named the goaltender of the year in the Hockey Allsvenskan.

The Oilers then put together another disappointing loss, this time a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the New Jersey Devils. Skinner had a bounce-back game in net, but a lack of run support was the Oilers' Achilles heel in this contest.

The next night, the team returned to work with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders. The game's highlight was Leon Draisaitl recording his 48th and 49th goals. He hit the 100-point milestone for the sixth time in his NHL career and fourth year in a row.

Corey Perry, Viktor Arvidsson, and Connor McDavid scored a goal to propel the Oilers to a 3-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Sunday night. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also put in a stellar performance, recording a multi-point game for the first time since February 23rd.
