Both of the new additions have made vital contributions to the team, and the team is poised to reward them for it.

Walman, in particular, is an interesting player to examine. He is in the final year of a three-year contract that is paying him $3.4 million

The lefty played 65 games, recording seven goals, 33 assists, and 40 points while playing 22:46 a night. Walman’s point total and assists were career highs.

Had Walman not been injured, he was on pace to produce 50 points. Before the 2024-25 season, his highest point total was 21 points.

EXCLUSIVE: Mark Messier On Oilers, Budweiser, His Future & More EXCLUSIVE: Mark Messier On Oilers, Budweiser, His Future & More EDMONTON – Mark Messier loves Edmonton.

Fans loved the level of competition and physicality he brought to the team during the playoffs. Walman also had a unique sense of pettiness that he displayed during the Cup Final.

As for what Walman could be paid on his next deal, that depends on what kind of deal both parties are looking for. They could focus on a two- to three-year deal in the $5-$6 million range. Or, they could sign a longer deal at a more digestible contract of $4-$5 million per season.

One way or another, it appears that things are trending in the direction of these players extending their contracts before the start of the season, as Bob Stauffer revealed a little while ago.

There’s never a dull moment in Oil Country.
