The Edmonton Oilers have made news in a few different ways this summer. Unfortunately for the organization, the worst news was losing to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.

Since then, it’s only gone up.
Evan Bouchard secured a four-year contract extension, Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson were traded to new teams, and Corey Perry and Connor Brown took their services elsewhere through free agency.
However, the organization was able to gain the services of Andrew Mangiapane through free agency. He will give the forward group more depth and make the team a bit harder to play against.
While the majority of news has died down for the summer, there may be news to talk about on the horizon.
On Bob Stauffer’s radio show, Oilers Now, he was interviewed by guest host Bryn Griffiths on Monday. He singled out two players who had gained respect from their teammates for the ways they helped the team reach the Cup Final and how they may soon be rewarded.
“There’s two players that Stan Bowman went out and got,” Stauffer explained. “Vasily Podkolzin for a fourth-round pick, and the other one was Jake Walman for the first-round pick.”
“I think it’s entirely possible at some point here in late July or in August, we could foresee a scenario where those guys' extensions get done. I think there is an appreciation for the uniqueness of their talents.”
Extending Vasily Podkolzin and Jake Walman makes a lot of sense for the Oilers. Podkolzin has an impressive work ethic and consistently plays the right way. Walman brings an enviable combination of skill and edge.
We now wait to see how the rest of the summer unfolds for the Oilers and what other news the summer sunshine will bring.
