EDMONTON -- Things aren't slowing down in Oil Country.

The Edmonton Oilers have had a busy couple of weeks. They went from losing Game seven of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers, to bringing most of the band back together in free agency.
Warren Foegele, Vincent Desharnais and Sam Carrick are three players that have moved on to other organizations. For cap reasons, there was no way the Oilers could have brought those three players back, in addition to all of the RFA's they still need to deal with.
Add Ryan McLeod to the list of players on their way out.
Elliotte Friedman was the first to report that the Oilers had traded McLeod along with Ty Tullio to the Buffalo Sabres. In return the Oilers acquire Matt Savoie.
Matt is the younger brother to (now) former Oilers prospect Carter Savoie. Matt was the ninth overall pick in the 2022 NHL entry draft. The 20-year-old was born in St. Albert, Alberta.

Matt played games in the AHL and WHL last season, as well as a single game in the NHL. He only played for 3:55 in his game for the Sabres. His numbers in the AHL and WHL are a lot more impressive.

Split between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Wenatchee Wild he played 34 games. In those games he recorded 71 points. Matt played six games in the AHL and collected an impressive five points.
Matt signed his ELC contract on July 16th of 2022. However, because he didn't play over nine NHL games in either of those seasons, his ELC doesn't kick in until the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Trading for an impressive prospect like Matt yet shedding salary is a tidy piece of business for Jeff "not GM" Jackson.
