EDMONTON – No two trades are the same.
The Edmonton Oilers are no strangers to trades. In the past week, they have traded away both Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson.

But those aren’t the only players the Oilers are looking to move out (or in). They added organizational depth with Matt Tomkins and Riley Stillman. They also brought in Andrew Mangiapane to give a boost to the top-six forward group.
In the wake of free agency opening, NHL insider Frank Seravalli made an appearance on the Kevin Karius show on Tuesday morning. In that conversation, Seravalli revealed the status of the Oilers potentially acquiring Tampa Bay Lightning forward prospect, Isaac Howard.

EDMONTON – Silly is as silly does.
“There’s many people around the league that thought the Oilers were getting Isaac Howard,” Seravalli revealed. “I think even people around Isaac Howard thought he was going to Edmonton.”
“The Oilers, to my understanding, told Tampa that they could, and would, do a late first-round pick in exchange for Howard’s rights,” Seravalli explained. “That apparently wasn’t good enough.”
Unfortunately for the Lightning, they don’t have an infinite amount of time to sort out a solution. Seravalli explained the situation from their perspective.
“There’s a clock ticking to this,” Seravalli revealed. “If they lose Howard’s rights, if he doesn’t sign next August, they’re going to get the last pick of the second round (as a) compensatory pick.”
“It seems like the arrogance of the Tampa Bay Lightning are what’s gotten in the way with this player.”
In terms of acquiring a player to bring talent and speed in addition to youthful energy, Howard checks all the boxes. The Michigan State University forward scored 26 goals and added 26 assists in 37 NCAA games this past year, helping him earn the Hobey Baker Award as top NCAA Player.
Time will tell if a deal comes to fruition.
