The Edmonton Oilers CEO appears ready to name the next General Manager for the team. On Tuesday July 16 he appeared on The Bob McCown Podcast and laid out a timeline for the new hire.
"I don't want to put a time frame on it but probably (within) the next week to 10 days I would think," was Jackson's answer to a question about when the Oilers will announce their next General Manager.
According to Billy Stefan, the Oilers will be naming Mark Hunter as their General Manager this coming week. Hunter has long been considered an option for the Oilers.
Hunter has a considerable resume. He spent four years with the Toronto Maple Leafs, from the 2014-15 season till the 2017-18 season. For two years he was the Director of Player Personnel and for two years he was the Assistant General Manager. He has spent 19 seasons as the General Manager of the London Knights. The Knights are a team in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

Sam Gagner, Patrick Kane, John Tavares, John Carlson, Corey Perry, and Bo Horvat all played for the Knights during Hunter's tenure. Matthew Tkachuk, Evan Bouchard, Robert Thomas and Mitch Marner played for the Knights while Hunter was with the organization in a Vice President of Hockey Operations role.
It's also interesting to note that this tweet mentions Stan Bowman. Specifically that he has "options" when it comes to earning a position with an NHL club. Special advisor to the GM is a potential role they suggest.

Hunter would check off a couple of the boxes that Jackson has on his list for Oilers GM. Oilers fans will need to wait until at least Monday to see if this comes to pass. For now, this is a rumor and we will need to wait for team confirmation.
