It started with the Edmonton Oilers making it all the way to Game seven of the Stanley Cup Final. It continued with Draisaitl proposing to his actress girlfriend, Celeste Desjardins.

Draisaitl is in the final year of an $8.5-million contract. He is able to sign a contract extension at any time. However, Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson has stated he wants the new Oilers General Manager to oversee those negotiations. Because the new GM has not been named, those negotiations haven't taken place.

Now that he has had time to reflect, he's taken to social media to express his thoughts.

In Draisaitl's post he writes, "A bitter end to a tremendous season. I am confident the growth our group experienced will propel us to the top. Thank you Oil Country for your unwavering support all season long."

There is no question that it was a tough season. A rough start out of the gate set the team up for a rollercoaster season. They spent the whole year digging themselves out of a hole. Even in the playoffs they had to come from behind in two different series'. Unfortunately, they were only successful in one of them.

A new season on the horizon presents a new opportunity for the team. On paper the team is better. Now it's all about execution and can this team be better.

Draisaitl had a great season. In 81 games he scored 41 goals, 106 points while averaging 20:41 of ice time per game. He has recorded 100 or more points in five of his last six seasons. His average ice time was the lowest it's been since the 2017-18 season.

We will see what awaits him for the 2024-25 season.
