EDMONTON -- While the Edmonton Oilers are riding high into the All-Star break due to their 16 game win streak - someone else is leaving the city significantly less jovial.

Tyson Barrie was traded to the Nashville Predators at the trade deadline last year. In a package that included some draft picks as well as Reid Schaefer to bring Mattias Ekholm into the fold, Barrie was the collateral damage that allowed them to seal the deal.

After finishing last year with 55 points in 85 games played, Barrie has found himself in a unique situation for the 2023-24 season. Over the past 15 games Barrie has only dressed for one - he's been a healthy scratch for every other game.

Earlier this season it was leaked that he and his agent were given permission to talk to other teams to see if there could be a potential fit for him. When Predators GM Barry Trotz got wind of that he was not impressed.

Whenever he has played he hasn't played well, which only hurts his trade value with teams that are potentially looking to add him to their roster. As an example, Barrie has 11 points in 31 games. That might not sound bad, but that gives him a 0.35 points per game pace. That is his lowest points per game pace since the 2012-13 season - 11 years ago.

Something has to give for the Predators, because they can't have a depreciating asset continually watch games from the press box. Now that most teams are on their All-Star break there will be time to (hopefully) sort out this matter.
