EDMONTON – All good things must come to an end.
Many good players have come through Edmonton, but one has decided to call it a career.
Former Edmonton Oilers forward Pat Maroon has had a long career, especially for a power forward player like him. The 36-year-old spent several years playing with the Oilers. Last year, he was knocked out of the playoffs while playing with the Boston Bruins.

Maroon made his debut in the 2015-16 season. He was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks for Martin Gernat and a 2016 fourth-round pick. Early on, it was a great trade for the Oilers.
He collected 14 points in 16 games to finish off that year. Maroon only had 15 points in 56 games before the trade. Fortunately, for the Oilers (and Maroon), that was just the beginning of the good times.
Maroon played all of the 2016-17 season before being traded to the New Jersey Devils by the deadline in 2017-18. His full season in Edmonton was his most productive.
In 81 games, he collected 27 goals and 15 assists for 42 points. Maroon set career highs in goals and points that season. Additionally, he averaged 17:04 of time on ice per game, another career high.
On Saturday night, his Chicago Blackhawks played against the St. Louis Blues. In a pre-game interview, he revealed some shocking news.
Speaking rinkside with Darren Pang, Maroon reflected on his career and his plans for the immediate future.
“I laid it all out there every night,” Maroon said. “For me, I just did everything the right way, and I tried to play as an honest player. It’s going to be an emotional night for me.”
Maroon is a native of St. Louis, winning a Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.
“I accomplished everything in my career that I never would have thought,” Maroon revealed. “Everyone doubted me and now I’m 840 (games played) in.”
“I just know it’s time for me, and it’s time for my family to start a new chapter in our life.”
Maroon was a fan-favorite Oilers player, and many fans have been following the forward since his departure from the team.
