(NEW) Calvin Pickard, EDM at CLB (21% rostered)
Coming off a 6-1 win against the Pens, Pickard is going for his ninth win in his 12th start. This is a no-brainer option; Pickard tops the list among Thursday's starters.
Nico Daws, NJ vs. STL (13% rostered)
With Akira Schmid getting the start in Travis Green's debut and taking the loss, the Devils will likely go back to Daws. The Devils have lost three straight and six of their past eight, still unable to snap a season-long slump.
However, there is some upside in this matchup; the Blues are mired in a slump of their own, losing seven of their past 11. While Daws is unlikely to post good numbers, the Devils have enough offensive firepower to at least give Daws a chance to win.
Samuel Ersson, PHI at FLA (44% rostered)
Ersson was very good in his previous start, allowing just one goal on 25 shots, so he brings a lot of positive momentum into this matchup. It's just unfortunate that Ersson will be facing the league's best team. While Ersson might put up a good save percentage, the Flyers are big underdogs in this matchup.
Daniil Tarasov, CLB vs. EDM (3% rostered)
Maybe the Jackets play spoiler again?! Tarasov is expected to get the start with Elvis Merzlikins still on the mend, and he's been fantastic for four straight games with a .928 SP during that span. The Jackets aren't a good team but they get up for games against juggernaut opponents -- that's just been their trademark since knocking off the Lightning in the playoffs, and they've won three of their past four against the Oilers -- so there's certainly a chance for an upset here.
The Oilers are obviously still favored, but among the options on this list -- they're a little thin -- Tarasov isn't as bad as it seems. The hope is that Tarasov makes a ton of saves, Connor McDavid is limited to just a couple points and the Jackets somehow find a way to beat the opposing goalie at least a few times.
Anton Forsberg, OTT at LA (7% rostered)
Forsberg was healthy enough to back up Mads Søgaard on Wednesday against the Ducks, which points toward him being the starter against the Kings. The Sens are playing the second game of a back-to-back and this is a much tougher matchup.
The bright side: Forsberg's career numbers against the Kings are actually excellent with a .930 SP and 2.09 GAA in four appearances against them. I wouldn't bank on a performance along those lines, but a good save percentage would already be a good result if you roll the dice with this matchup.
Editor's note: Joonas Korpisalo has returned from illness and gets the start. I don't think Korpisalo has much upside.
Kaapo Kähkönen, SJ vs. NYI (5% rostered)
The Sharks can't score enough to keep with the Isles, which means the most likely scenario is a ton of saves for Kähkönen but probably not a good save percentage and almost certainly not a win.
Editor's note: Magnus Chrona gets the start. He was brilliant against the Stars and this is another tough matchup. With the Sharks holding multiple players out of lineup pending a trade, it does not bode well for Chrona. At best, we're looking at a good save percentage.
Eric Comrie, BUF at NSH (1% rostered)
The fact that the Sabres played back-to-back on March 2-3 but opted to start Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for both games tells me a lot. Given that the playoffs are very likely out of reach and Luukkonen just played a pretty grueling game in Toronto, I think we will see Comrie in this start. The Preds were in disbelief when their winning streak was snapped against the Habs -- I would, too, if David Savard scored a flukey goal from center ice -- and I think they get back on track pretty quickly.
Without much of a track record and having little confidence from his coaches, I don't think fantasy managers should view Comrie as a viable streaming option. However, there is a chance that the Sabres offense is so good that it bails out Comrie.
Samuel Montembeault, MTL at CAR (22% rostered)
Montembeault is 0-3-1 with a 3.87 GAA against the Canes in his career and the Habs needed some lucky bounces to snap their two-game losing streak. Despite Montembeault's strong performances lately, it's hard to recommend this matchup when the Canes have dominated this matchup; since 2017, the Habs have beaten the Canes just twice in 17 tries.
