NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Pickups March 6 - Jason Chen's Best Picks

Every Tuesday and Thursday, THN Fantasy expert Jason Chen will highlight his best picks to stream or roster for the rest of the season. The recommended players and goalies are rostered in less than 50 percent of Yahoo leagues and can be selected in standard fantasy leagues or for daily fantasy games.

Goalies

Karel Vejmelka, UTA vs. NSH (44% rostered)

Vejmelka’s been a workhorse and his strong play continues having won four of his past five games. The Utah defense has done a really good job of making his job easier lately and it should be more of the same against the Preds, who are one of the league’s worst offensive teams.

Vejmelka should get the win this game. The Preds are horrendous on the road with only nine wins, and needed overtime to snap a six-game losing streak.

Defensemen

Sean Durzi, D, UTA vs. NSH (13% rostered)

This is a good matchup for Utah and Durzi has the hot hand with three helpers in his past four games. He’s not elite in any one category but generally doesn’t have any cardio games – ie. zero points, zero hits, zero blocks – which gives him a high floor. The Preds are allowing the eighth-most goals per game on the road this season.

Forwards

Morgan Geekie, C/LW/RW, BOS vs. CHI (39% rostered)

Great matchup for Geekie, who has a chance to extend his points streak to eight games. A fixture on the Bruins’ top line, Geekie now has six goals and nine assists during this stretch, and the Blackhawks have allowed five goals in five of their past seven games.

Adam Fantilli, C, CBJ vs. BUF (29% rostered)

I think this game will feature a lot of goals, and despite playing just 12:23 against the Sens, Fantilli managed to score his third goal in five games. His linemate Kent Johnson has also been scoring points, and while Boone Jenner’s also a solid streamer playing left wing on Sean Monahan’s line, Fantilli’s upside is higher than both Jenner’s and Johnson’s.

Pius Suter, C/LW, VAN at COL (22% rostered)

Not sure how Suter keeps getting missed, but he might be the only No. 1 center right now who people don’t realize is a No. 1. Thrust into the role due to injuries to key players, Suter has more than held his own, and his two goals against the Stars sparked a historic comeback win after being down three goals in the last minute of the game. He plays a ton of minutes on both L1 and PP1.
