Florida will depart Finland with four points in the bank after defeating the Stars on consecutive days in Tampere

Florida will depart Finland with four points in the bank after defeating the Stars on consecutive days in Tampere

It was a prosperous trip to Finland for the Florida Panthers.

After defeating the Dallas Stars 6-4 on Friday, the Cats got right back to work on Saturday, taking down the Stars 4-2.

For the second straight outing, Florida would open the scoring, and just like on Friday, the goal came off the stick of Evan Rodrigues.

On Friday it was E-Rod deflecting home an Aaron Ekblad point shot, and on Saturday he did the same on a slapshot by Niko Mikkola to give the Cats a 1-0 first period lead.

Former Panther Mason Marchment made his presence felt late in the period when he slammed Nate Schmidt into the boards from behind, leading to a massive scrum involving everyone on the ice except the goalies.

After taking a moment to collect himself, Schmidt got off the ice, found Marchment and began unloading punches on him.

Florida didn’t end up scoring on the resulting power play, but the Cats cashed in on another man advantage later in the period, and it was another deflection that beat Stars goalie Casey DeSmith.

This time it was Matthew Tkachuk getting his stick on a shot by Uvis Balinskis to give the Cats a 2-0 lead midway through the game.

Dallas quickly responded with a power play goal of their own, as former Panther Evgenii Dadonov found some space in the left circle and beat Spencer Knight five hole.

Matt Duchene tied the game less than a minute later, jumping on a rebound at the side of the net.

We were just 2:32 into the third period when A.J. Greer scored his first as a Panther right off an offensive zone draw to put the Cats back in front.

Greer jumped on the puck after it was won back by Tomas Nosek, moving toward the slot and firing a shot over the glove of DeSmith.

Knight came up with several big saves down the stretch, and Sam Reinhart scored after Dallas pulled DeSmith to ice the game for Florida.

Two games, four points in Finland.

    Not a bad trip.

Next game for the Cats is at home on Thursday against Nashville.

    QUICK THOUGHTS

Reinhart extended his points streak to five games, logging five goals and right points during the run. He’s scored in four straight.

Barkov finished his Finnish visit with five points in the two games.

Mikkola has assists in four of his past five games after picking up an apple on Rodrigues’ goal.

Speaking of Rodrigues, after going eight games without a point, he snagged two goals and an assist in Tampere.

Eetu Luostarinen picked up an assist on Reinhart’s empty net goal, meaning all four Finnish Panthers logged a point while in their homeland.
