The Florida Panthers stepped up in a big way in Game 7, defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs by a 6-1 final score. With this, the Panthers have advanced to the Eastern Conference for the third year in a row and will face off against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Panthers forward Brad Marchand was one of the team's top stars of the game, as the veteran forward had a goal and two assists on the night. With this, the 37-year-old recorded three goals and eight points in seven games against the Maple Leafs this post-season. He has also now gone 5-0 against Toronto in the playoffs, setting a new NHL record.
While speaking with TNT analyst Paul Bissonnette, Marchand made a humorous joke about the Original Six club following his question about Florida's dominant three-goal second period:
"Yeah, we just had to beLEAF," Marchand said.
Marchand's joke certainly got plenty of laughs and even made Bissonette, a diehard Maple Leafs fan, laugh.
"I thought you were going to take the high road there," Bissonette said in response to Marchand's joke before taking a lap around the TNT desk.
Marchand is well-known for his excellent chirping ability, and this latest joke only demonstrates that. The Panthers star will now look to stay hot for the Cats in the Eastern Conference Final against the Hurricanes from here. Game 1 is set for May 20.
