With the new National Hockey League season fast approaching, we’ve officially entered the preview portion of the summer.
On Wednesday, the league’s official website focused on the Florida Panthers and posted several stories looking ahead to what the Cats could be up to in 2026-27.
First up was a deep dive into the state of the Panthers, which touched on Florida’s offseason roster moves – adding Brady Tkachuk, Jacob Markstrom, Radko Gudas, Lars Eller, Akira Schmid and Garnet Hathaway while losing Sergei Bobrovsky, A.J. Greer, Evan Rodrigues, Jesper Boqvist and Mackie Samoskevich – and the team’s overall depth with an expected fully healthy roster.
Then a story was posted posing three questions facing the Panthers this season.
To no surprise, they were in regard go how the Tkachuk brothers would look as teammates, whether Florida’s new goaltending tandem could replace Sergei Bobrovsky and, again, the team’s overall health.
Another story examined the Panthers’ top prospects, who are going to have a difficult path in earning their way to the NHL considering how deep Florida remains at the highest level.
Atop the list was Sandis Vilmanis, who looked good during 19 games with the Panthers last season and with Team Latvia at the Winer Olympics before leading his nation in scoring at the IIHF World Championship a few months later.
Also on the list were Jack Devine, Matvel Shauravin, Marek Alscher and Cooper Black.
Shifting to Florida's fantasy hockey projections, there will be no shortage of Panthers players who are plucked off the board when it comes time to draft a new team in the coming weeks.
Topping the list of Panthers expected to have strong fantasy hockey seasons were the Tkachuk brothers, Sam Reinhart and Sasha Barkov.
The story also gave some love to Markstrom, who could be in line for a good amount of wins if he stays healthy and performs as expected.
Finally, here’s a very interesting breakdown of Florida’s NHL EDGE stats and how they could relate to the upcoming season.
The story examined how the Tkachuks drive offense with the combination of skill and physicality and how Barkov controls so much of his time on the ice with elite puck possession.
It also looked at Markstrom and Schmid’s historically solid high-danger save percentages and how they could see similar success in Florida.
