Barkov won the Selke in 2021 and has now been a finalist three times

The NHL announced the three finalists for the Frank. J Selke Award on Sunday.

Among them – coming as no surprise to most – is Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov.

He won the Selke back in 2020-21 and was a finalist the following season. His two-way play has long been considered some of the best in the NHL.

Barkov played 73 games for the Panthers this season, logging 23 goals and 80 points while skating to a plus-33 on-ice rating, which was fifth best among all forwards.

Toronto’s Auston Matthews and Carolina’s Jordan Staal are the other two finalists.

According to the NHL…“the puck was in the offensive zone for 46.3% of the time Barkov was on the ice at even strength according to NHL EDGE tracking data, ranking in the 97th percentile among NHL skaters, and in the defensive zone for just 35.3% of the time (97th percentile).”

The winner will be announced this summer at NHL Awards.

Barkov and the Panthers will host the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Monday night from Amerant Bank Arena.
