Former 2022 sixth-round pick Josh Davies has been placed on waivers by the Florida Panthers for the purpose of contract termination.

The Florida Panthers will be terminating winger/center Josh Davies’ contract, as he’s been placed on waivers for the purpose of contract termination, per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

The 21-year-old was skating in his second season in the Panthers’ farm system. His rookie season saw him split time between the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers and the ECHL’s Savannah Ghost Pirates.

He finished the season with no goals or points in 18 AHL games and 11 goals and 16 points in 34 ECHL games. This season, he had spent the entirety of it with the Ghost Pirates, notching eight goals and 12 points in 31 games.

The Panthers selected Davies in the sixth round (186th overall) in the 2022 NHL draft after we scored 16 goals and 36 points in 64 WHL games. Standing 5-foot-9, 197 pounds, the Calgary, Alta., native has struggled to find his footing in professional hockey and will now leave the Panthers organization.

Davies is the third player to see his contract terminated by the Panthers this season, and the second player this week. Anton Lundmark was the first player to have his contract terminated, and earlier this week, the Panthers terminated Ryan McAllister’s contract.

What’s next for Davies remains unknown.
