It's time for another installment in THN Florida's Five Favorites series.
In case you’re wondering what the Five Favorites series is, here’s a quick reminder:
In keeping with the idea of learning more about the Florida Panthers, we’re going to different players on the team and asking them each a group of questions about their favorite things.
So far, we've spoken to Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad and Florida forward Evan Rodrigues.
Today we're catching up with forward Nick Cousins, one of the Panthers more versatile and, dare we say, controversial players, at least according to his reputation outside of South Florida.
Around the team, Cousins is beloved by his teammates and fits in well with Florida's hard-working, high-character locker room.
Let's dive into Cousins' favorites and see what he had to say:
Favorite non-hockey hobby: Golf. I feel like it's so relaxing, but also at the same time, it's like a mental grind to kind of stay with it if it doesn't go your way early. I feel like it helps me mentally, if things go wrong or whatever on the ice, so, I feel like mentally it kind of helps my mind, but it’s also relaxing. It's nice to get out there and socialize with some buddies.
Favorite hockey movie: Probably Slapshot. It's just a classic, I watched it growing up.
Favorite pregame pump-up song/music: No, no music at all. Honestly, if I'm driving to the rink before a game, it's usually country, just to kind of relax me a little.
Favorite player growing up: Mats Sundin. I grew up a Leafs fan obviously, being from Ontario I lived two hours away from Toronto, so I grew up watching Mats Sundin.
Favorite non-NHL hockey memory: Probably winning the OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Association) Championship my minor midget year, which was our OHL Draft year. We (Cousins played for the Quinte Red Devils) made it to the finals, legit, probably four or five years in a row, and we lost to the same team, York Simcoe Express. After five years of making it, we finally ended up winning it in our draft year (2008-09).
A proper thank you to Nick Cousins for taking a few minutes and answering some non-traditional hockey questions for us.
Stay tuned for the next installment of Five Favorites, we've got some good ones coming up!
