So far, the NHL offseason has been pretty exciting. It's a time for teams to gear up and put themselves into a better position to hoist the Stanley Cup next season. One of the biggest moves of the offseason so far has been the Los Angeles Kings acquiring star Pierre-Luc Dubois from the Winnipeg Jets. LA signed him to a new eight-year deal as well, keeping him in the city of Angels for the foreseeable future.
He touched down in Los Angeles recently and is ready to get to work! Dubois seems motivated and ready to go, which is a great sign for LA.
Getting a player like Dubois was a real power-type move from General Manager Rob Blake, who wanted to make a splash this offseason. LA was one of the better teams out West last year but failed to make it out of the first round of the playoffs once again.
The team is hoping that the acquisition of Dubois, plus other moves they have made, will increase their chances of winning another championship. Dubois brings real firepower on offense to this Los Angeles team, as he scored 27 goals and had 36 assists for the Jets last season.
Dubois should help take this LA offense over the top with his scoring ability, but also just having him out on the ice will help as well. Teams will need to make sure they keep track of him at all times and sometimes may try to lightly double-team him, leaving room open for others to make a play.
This was a home run move for the Kings and one that they needed to make. They now have a young star player that they can build around for the next few seasons, and hopefully, he can bring them more success on the ice.
