Minnesota Wild defenseman Brock Faber has had his stitches removed following surgery for his skull fracture, but the 24-year-old has yet to resume physical activity.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild received some encouraging news regarding defenseman Brock Faber's recovery from a fractured skull.

Wild head coach John Hynes provided an update on Faber following Thursday's morning skate, revealing that the defenseman recently had his stitches removed after undergoing surgery in late September.

"He got his stitches out, which was positive," Hynes said. "He's got another doctor's appointment next week to see what the next progression will be."

Faber suffered the injury during Minnesota's preseason game on Sept. 27 and underwent surgery the following day. The Wild have been without the 24-year-old defenseman since.

While the removal of his stitches represents a positive development, Faber has yet to be cleared to resume physical activity.

"He's doing really well. Stitches are out. No activity yet for him," Hynes said. "He's gotta go see a doctor in short order here and then after that, I'll be able to update you where he is at in his next steps. But all positive in that way."

The upcoming doctor's appointment could provide additional clarity on the next stage of Faber's recovery. However, there remains no timetable for his return to the lineup.

Faber's absence has been a significant loss for Minnesota's defensive group.

The former University of Minnesota standout has developed into one of the Wild's most important defensemen, regularly logging significant minutes and playing in critical situations.

His injury has also forced Minnesota to make adjustments on the blue line, including breaking up its anticipated top defensive pairing of Faber and Quinn Hughes.

The Wild have been dealing with several injuries early in the 2026-27 season, with captain Jared Spurgeon and defenseman Olli Maatta also sidelined.

For now, the encouraging development is that Faber continues to progress in his recovery. The next significant update is expected following his doctor's appointment next week, when the team hopes to have a clearer understanding of what comes next.
