
According to Rick Dhaliwal, former Wild defenseman Ian Cole is expected to become a free agent on July 1.
Cole, 35, signed a one-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks last offseason and played in 78 regular season games. He was a mainstay on the Canucks backend when it came to penalty killing. He had two goals and 11 points and was a plus-10.
He appeared in 13 playoff games for the Canucks this year as well. Cole is a two-time Stanley Cup champion who has played in over 800 regular season games and 129 career playoff games. He has three goals and 31 points and is a plus-10 in the playoffs.
The veteran blue liner started the 2020-21 season with the Colorado Avalanche and played in only two games. He was eventually traded to the Wild from the Avalanche for Greg Pateryn in January of 2021. Cole played in 52 games for the Wild where he recorded one goal and eight points and was a plus-21.
He has been on five teams in the last four years and is now expected to hit the free agent market again.
