It was announced today that forward Nick Bonino was placed on unconditional waivers for purposes of contract termination.

Bonino, 35, has played in 45 games for the Rangers this season and has recorded one goal and five points. The longtime NHL veteran has played for seven different teams, including the Wild, across 15 seasons.

The Wild traded for Bonino before the 2020-21 season along with a 2nd-round pick (37th) in the 2020 NHL Draft and a 3rd-round pick (70th) in the 2020 NHL Draft for Luke Kunin and a 4th-round pick (101) in the 2020 NHL Draft.

That 2020 second-round pick turned into Marat Khusnutdinov who has quickly climbed the Wild's prospect pool and looks to be possibly coming to Minnesota after his season ends in the KHL.

The 2020 3rd-round pick was later traded to the Detriot Red Wings for a 2020 3rd-round pick (65th) and a 2020 5th-round pick (132nd) for the 65th pick in the 2020 draft which the Wild used to select defenseman Daemon Hunt.

Bonino played in 55 games for the Wild during the 2020-21 season where he recorded ten goals and 26 points while providing the Wild with great defensive play in their bottom six.

In his career, Bonino has played in 868 games. He has recorded 159 goals, 358 points, and has won two Stanley Cups, both with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
