Will this former Wild goalie find a new home before the start of the season?

Now that it is the middle of August, most of this year's notable unrestricted free agents (UFAs) have found their new homes. Although this is the case, there are still some players who have yet to land their next contracts.

When looking at the remaining goalies still left in free agency, a former Minnesota Wild netminder is among the best of them: Cam Talbot.

Talbot still being a UFA at this point in the off-season comes after he struggled last season with the Detroit Red Wings. In 34 games with Detroit this past campaign, the former Wild goalie posted an .883 save percentage and a 3.19 goals-against average.

Although Talbot had a tough year in 2025-26, it is fair to wonder if he will be able to find a new home before the start of the season. The 39-year-old goalie has been an All-Star two times since the 2021-22 season, with the most recent time being in 2023-24. With that, he was still a very solid goalie not too long ago.

Talbot also had a .900 save percentage or better in five out of his previous six seasons before 2024-25. Due to this, he could be a solid bounce-back candidate for an NHL club to take a chance on if they need more depth between the pipes.

In 82 games with the Wild from 2020-21 to 2021-22, Talbot posted a 51-20-9 record, a .913 save percentage, a 2.71 goals-against average, and five shutouts.
