Minnesota Wild head coach John Hynes provided updates on both Foligno brothers on Monday, revealing that Marcus is day-to-day while Nick is expected to miss additional time.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild are dealing with injuries to both Foligno brothers, and head coach John Hynes provided an update on their respective statuses ahead of Monday's game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Marcus Foligno remains day-to-day, while his older brother Nick is expected to be sidelined for a little longer.

"Marcus, I'm waiting on. He's got an appointment, so I'm waiting to hear back on that," Hynes said Monday. "I would classify him right now as day to day, and Nick is a little bit longer than that, but not like a long-term deal."

Marcus missed Saturday's game against the Florida Panthers with a lower-body injury. When asked Monday whether the injury was lower-body related, Hynes described the location as "mid."

That description is particularly noteworthy given Marcus' previous injury history.

The 35-year-old winger has undergone two previous hernia surgeries, including one following the 2022-23 season and another in April 2024.

His first surgery came in May 2023 after he battled an injury that affected his skating and explosiveness throughout the season.

The following year, Foligno underwent another procedure after dealing with a groin injury that ultimately ended his 2023-24 campaign prematurely. The two surgeries addressed opposite sides of his body.

While Hynes' description of the current injury raises questions given Foligno's medical history, there has been no indication from the team that the latest issue is related to either of his previous surgeries.

For now, the Wild are awaiting additional information following his medical appointment.

As for Nick, the 38-year-old forward has been sidelined since suffering an upper-body injury against the Buffalo Sabres on Oct. 6.

Nick played just 3:29 in the opening period before leaving the game and not returning. He subsequently missed Minnesota's games against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Panthers and was placed on injured reserve.

Although Hynes indicated Nick will be out longer than Marcus, the Wild coach emphasized that the injury is not expected to be a long-term issue.

The injuries have forced Minnesota to make adjustments to its forward group early in the season, including the recent recall of Rieger Lorenz, who made his NHL debut Saturday against Florida.

Both Foligno brothers provide a physical presence and veteran leadership to Minnesota's lineup, making their absences noticeable as the Wild navigate the opening weeks of the season.

For Marcus, the immediate question is what his upcoming medical evaluation reveals and whether his latest injury is connected to the core issues that previously required surgery.

For Nick, the Wild appear to be preparing for a slightly longer absence, although Hynes' comments suggest the veteran forward is not facing an extended recovery.

Minnesota will look to get both brothers healthy as it continues its early-season schedule.
