The Iowa Wild, the Minnesota Wild's American Hockey League Affiliate, have signed Wisconsin Badgers goaltender Kyle McClellan to an amateur tryout.

The Wild are a bit familiar with the Wisconsin Badgers. Their 2023 first round pick, Charlie Stramel, has played the last two years with the Badgers. Stramel did enter the transfer portal and is looking for a new school to play for, which will likely be Michigan State.

But after watching Stramel the last two seasons the Wild have felt that the Badgers goaltender was worth signing.

McClellan, 25, led the country with a .931 save percentage and seven shutouts during the 2023-24 season with the Badgers. His .931 save percentage ranked third in Badgers program history.

The former Mercyhurst University goaltender ranked second in the NCAA this season with a 1.94 goals-against-average and is up for the Mike Richter award which is given to the best goalie in College Hockey.

The 6-foot-1 goaltender will join the Wild's AHL team on an amateur tryout with the possibility of signing a pro contract for the next season.
