Nashville Predators forward Zachary L'Heureux gets a three-game suspension for slew-footing Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon.
Spurgeon, 35, is out with a lower-body injury and could be out long-term depending on his MRI he received on Thursday. Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin will speak to the Wild media later on Thursday to talk about Spurgeon's status.
L'Heureux, 21, has never been suspended in the NHL before. It is his rookie season in the NHL after he was ready to put his previous suspensions in other leagues behind him.
Including his first NHL suspension, L'Heureux has now been suspended 12 times for 42 total games throughout his 6 seasons in the QMJHL, AHL, and NHL (2019-2024).
He was suspended for 36 games (9 incidents) in the QMJHL, three games (2 incidents) in the AHL, and now three games in the NHL.
In the NHL Department of Player Safety's statement, they say that because there was a Slew-foot, an injury, and no history, L'Heureux has been suspended for three games.
It is likely that the 35-year-old defenseman will be out for a while. He was seen after the game on crutches and wearing a full leg brace. He has fully recovered from his season-ending back and hip surgeries he had last year and now is in danger of another long-term injury.
We will have more updates later on Spurgeon's status. Stay tuned to The Hockey News.
