Jesper Wallstedt and Jet Greaves accept AHL All-Star CCM Top Goaltender Award. The AHL All-Star challenge is tonight but the Skills Competition was last night. The Wild had two representatives at the event, goaltender Jesper Wallstedt and forward Nic Petan.
Wallstedt, 21, went 8/10 in the rapid-fire challenge and 5/5 in the breakaway relay challenge. This helped the young goaltender win the AHL All-Star Top Goaltender shared with Jet Greaves of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Both Greaves and Wallstedt shared the CCM Top Goaltender honors by stopping 15 of 18 shots each over the three goaltending events.
The Wild sent Wallstedt down, along with Jake Lucchini, after their last game against the Anaheim Ducks on January 27th so they could play in the last couple of AHL games before the AHL All-Star break. But Wallstedt was also competing in the All-Star festivities.
The Wild's former 2021 20th overall pick has been called up on two occasions by Minnesota this year, three if you count when the Wild called up Wallstedt when they went to Sweden for the Global Series.
In the AHL this year, Wallstetdt is 12-11-0 in 23 games with a .907 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against-average. He was hurt not long ago before the Wild called him up to start against the Dallas Stars in Dallas but Wallstedt is healthy now and is getting back to his game.
Tonight marks the AHL All-Star Challenge which is a round-robin tournament among the league’s four divisions played at 3-on-3. The All-Star Challenge will air live across the United States on NHL Network, across Canada on TSN2, and on the internet at AHLTV.
