On Thursday, Wild defenseman Will Butcher has signed in the KHL.
It was confirmed on Thursday that Wild defenseman Will Butcher has decided to sign in the KHL rather than pursue another contract in the AHL.
Butcher, 29, was acquired by the Minnesota Wild in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season. He played in 14 AHL games before the trade with Pittsburgh's minor league team. Butcher finished the 2023-24 season with the Iowa Wild.
In 24 games with Iowa, Butcher recorded three goals, six assists, and nine points. He has now signed a contract with Barys Astana of the KHL.
He was traded for forward Maxim Cajkovic who also recently left the AHL to sign a contract in the Czech Extraliga with HC Litvinov.
