ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Wild (26-11-4) might have to dress an Emergency Back Up Goaltender (EBUG) against the Colorado Avalanche (25-15-1) tonight.
Filip Gustavsson will start tonight against the Wild but Marc-Andre Fleury is sick and was not on the ice for morning skate on Thursday. Wild head coach John Hynes said that Fleury is questionable to backup tonight.
Jesper Wallstedt, who has started two NHL games this year, is hurt down in Iowa. Dylan Ferguson is also hurt. The Wild signed Ferguson to a two-way deal on Tuesday because Wallstedt was hurt.
The Wild did not have a second goaltender in the AHL that could be recalled if something were to happen to Gustavsson or Fleury. So, they broke Ferguson's AHL deal and signed him to a NHL two-way deal.
But, Ferguson got hurt in the Iowa Wild's game last night and Fleury is sick today. Samuel Hlavaj is on a two-way deal in the AHL but it is two expensive for the Wild to afford him.
Therefore, the Wild might have to utilize their EBUG tonight as Gustavsson's backup. Gustavsson was pulled from his start against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
