The Minnesota Wild announced a move before its game against the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild (3-1-1) returns to Grand Casino Arena on Monday night for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights (5-1-0).

Before its game against the Golden Knights, Minnesota placed forward Marcus Foligno on the injured reserve.

Foligno, 35, has no points in four games this season with 13 hits. He ranks third on the Wild in that category behind Michael McCarron and Yakov Trenin.

Wild head coach John Hynes said on Monday morning that Foligno's lower-body injury is really a mid-body injury and that he was set to have an appointment later.

"Marcus, I'm waiting on. He's got an appointment, so I'm waiting to hear back on that," Hynes said Monday. "I would classify him right now as day to day, and Nick is a little bit longer than that, but not like a long-term deal."

That appointment would provide the Wild some more clarity on Foligno's injury.

But Hynes's correction on Foligno's injury to a mid-body injury is important. The power forward has undergone two previous hernia surgeries, including one following the 2022-23 season and another in April 2024.

It is clear Foligno is dealing with another core injury. Hynes said Monday morning that he is still classified as day-to-day but we will see after the game if that has changed based on the latest move.
