Matt Boldy recorded his league-leading fifth game-winning goal of the year on Thursday.

ST. PAUL - Matt Boldy is off to a hot start for the Wild. His start is proving that the club has two young superstars.

The Wild are now 11-2-3 after their 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night and 7-0-2 when Boldy scores a goal.

Forwards Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello both left the game with injuries, yet the Wild were able to score three after they both left the game in the first.

Part of that was Boldy, who notched his fifth game-winning goal of the season. His five game-winning goals this year are first in the NHL through 16 games.

Kirill Kaprizov, the other superstar forward the Wild have, set up Boldy's goal on Thursday night.

"Yeah, he was exactly what he's been all year. He's awesome," Boldy said on Kaprizov. "So lucky to get out there with him. And yeah, it's a great play he made."

Marcus Johansson received Kaprizov's pass and quickly one-touch passed it to Boldy in the slot who tapped in the game-winning goal.

"I think a little bit," Boldy said on if Johansson's pass surprised him. "I would say just a little bit, though, because you know that he makes plays like that all the time, so you know it's coming. But yeah, it happened quickly."

Boldy, 23, became the fourth NHL player since 2000-01 to record five game-winning goals in a season's first 16 games, joining Fedorov (six, 2002-03), Draisaitl (five, 2021-22) and Matthews (five, 2020-21).

He is quickly becoming a superstar for the Wild with ten goals and 17 points in 16 games this year. Boldy is currently on pace for 51 goals, 36 assists, and 87 points this year.
