
The Minnesota Wild announced the hiring of Jason King to be their new assistant coach. King, 41, will round out the Wild's coaching staff alongside head coach Dean Evason, Assistant Coaches Bob Woods and Darby Hendrickson, Goaltending Coach Frederic Chabot, Video Coaches Jonas Plumb and T.J. Jindra, and Strength and Conditioning Coach Matt Harder.
King spent the last three seasons in Vancouver as an assistant coach under Travis Green, Rick Tocchet, and former Wild coach Bruce Boudreau.
Before joining the Canucks staff, King worked five seasons as an assistant coach with the Canucks American Hockey League affiliate, the Utica Comets.
Prior to working with Utica, King spent three seasons with the St. John’s IceCaps, which was an AHL team at the time. He worked two years as an assistant coach and one as the Director of Hockey Operations for the St. John's IceCaps.
During his time with Vancouver, King was given the task of running the Canucks power play in two of the three years. Last season the Canucks scored 62 power play goals which was the most Vancouver had scored in a single season since 2011.
Last year the Canucks finished 11th in the NHL in power play percentage at 22.7 percent, the Wild finished 16th in the NHL converting 21.4 percent of the time.
During the 2021-22 season the Canucks finished ninth in the NHL in power play percentage converting at 23.5 percent of the time. The Wild finished 18th in the NHL, converting at 20.5 percent of their power plays.
