The 2024-25 season was a bit of a tough year for Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Newhook. In 82 games on the year with the Original Six club, he posted 15 goals, 26 points, and a minus-21 rating.
While it was a down year for Newhook in 2024-25, there is still reason to believe that he can break out and emerge as a key forward for the Canadiens. With the 2019 first-round pick still being just 24 years old, it certainly is possible that he has not hit his ceiling yet.
Newhook should get the opportunity to succeed with the Canadiens in 2025-26. When looking at the Canadiens' current roster, he is very likely to have a spot in their middle six, at a minimum. With a strong camp, he could even make a case for the Canadiens' second-line center spot.
Newhook has already demonstrated offensive upside in the past, too. Just during the 2023-24 season with the Canadiens, he scored 15 goals and recorded a career-high 34 points in just 55 games. If he can tap into this kind of offense again, it would be significant for a Canadiens team on the rise.
Nevertheless, it is going to be very interesting to see what kind of season Newhook has in 2025-26. While he saw a dip in production this past season, he is still plenty young enough to not only bounce back but also hit a new level.
