The Nashville Predators have re-signed Cody Glass to a two year, $5 million dollar deal. The 24 year old center was the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NHL draft by the Vegas Golden Knights. The Predators acquired Glass in a 2021 trade that sent Ryan Ellis to Philadelphia. The Predators received Phillippe Myers and Nolan Patrick in return but immediately traded Patrick to Vegas for Cody Glass.

Glass's road to this new deal has certainly not been linear. In March 2020 he underwent knee surgery and a challenging recovery process through the pandemic. When he came to Nashville he played just eight games before spending the majority of the 2021-2022 season in Milwaukee.

Last season, Glass made the Predators roster out of camp. He was a healthy scratch for a handful of games early in the season but eventually settled into a regular role on the ice. When Nashville lost veterans to trade and injury, Glass was an important part of the youth movement that stepped up to keep the Predators in a playoff conversation until the final week of the season.

Glass is one player the organization is wanting to grow into a bigger offensive role as a part of the Predators' reset. The signing of veteran free agent center Ryan O'Reilly today raises some question about where head coach Andrew Brunette sees Glass playing in the lineup next season. This two year deal is an opportunity for Cody Glass to prove he is ready to be a number one center for the team down the road.
