This Bruins forward could be a great addition to the Devils' lineup.
The New Jersey Devils are set to be buyers at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. They are in a comfortable spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race and should look to add to their roster.
One clear area that the Devils should be focusing on improving is their forward group. While their stars are certainly providing marvelous offense, they need more secondary scoring if they hope to keep up with the NHL's fellow top teams during the playoffs.
With the Devils needing some help in their top nine, one player who they should consider targeting is Boston Bruins forward Morgan Geekie.
Geekie's name has been picking up some steam in the rumor mill, with the Bruins currently sitting out of a playoff spot and flirting with a retool. If Boston officially shops him, he could be a great fit in New Jersey's lineup.
Geekie, 26, has appeared in 52 games this season with the Bruins, where he has 17 goals, 29 points, and a plus-2 rating. This is after he broke out with Boston last season, recording career-highs with 17 goals, 22 assists, and 39 points in 76 games. With numbers like these, he would have the potential to give the Devils' top nine a boost.
When looking at the Devils' forward group, Geekie could fit perfectly as their third-line center under Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier. However, he can also play on the wing, so he could replace a player like Ondrej Palat in the top six as well. He also would give them another option to consider for their power play.
Geekie also has an easily affordable $2 million cap hit this season, which adds to his appeal. Furthermore, while he has an expiring contract, he is a pending restricted free agent. Therefore, if they acquired him, he would still be under the Devils' control this off-season.
