Devils Should Make Big Push For Kraken Star
The Devils should consider pursuing this Kraken forward.
The New Jersey Devils are undoubtedly preparing to be buyers for the 2025 NHL trade deadline. The Metropolitan Division club is having a strong bounce-back season, as they sport a 31-20-6 record and are third in the Metropolitan Division standings.
One area the Devils should be aiming to improve is their forward group, as they need more scoring. The trade market could have a fascinating player joining it shortly, who the Devils should seriously consider making a push for.
In a recent X post, Sportsnet's Jacob Stoller reported that Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann could be made available for the taking at the deadline. The Devils could undoubtedly use another top-six left winger, and McCann would give them just that.
McCann, 28, is having a solid season for the Kraken, posting 14 goals, 42 points, and a plus-7 rating. This is after he had 29 goals and 62 points in 80 contests last season. He also set career highs with 40 goals and 70 points with Seattle in 2022-23.

With numbers like these, McCann would undoubtedly give the Devils' forward group a major boost if acquired. When looking at a possible spot for him in New Jersey's lineup, he could replace Ondrej Palat on the first line with Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt.
Yet, McCann also offers great versatility, as he can play down the middle. In addition, McCann would be an obvious choice for both of their special team units because of his strong two-way play.
Another very appealing factor about McCann is that he has a reasonable $5 million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. Thus, he would be more than just a rental for the Devils if acquired, which adds to his value.
Overall, McCann could be a fantastic addition to the Devils' roster. It will be intriguing to see if they end up making a push for him from here, but the fit looks great on paper.
