    The New Jersey Devils rallied back to earn a 6-5 overtime victory over the Vegas Golden Knights Monday night at Prudential Center. It was the team's 16th comeback win of the season. 

    The Golden Knights scored the game's opening goal 6:12 into the first period. Pavel Dorofeyev scored his seventh of the season. Chandler Stephenson and Mark Stone collected the assists.

    Nico Hischier tied the game with his 13th goal of the season with less than five minutes remaining in the first period. Timo Meier and Jesper Bratt assisted on the play.

    With seconds remaining, Curtis Lazar's snap shot beat Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson. His linemates Erik Haula and Nathan Bastian were credited with the helpers.

    After 20 minutes, the Devils held a 15-14 shot advantage and a 2-1 lead. The 16,514 fans in attendance gave the team a standing ovation as they skated off the ice for the first intermission.

    Tyler Toffoli extended New Jersey's lead to 3-1 1:37 into the second period. The former Calgary Flames forward has scored in his last two games. Defensemen Simon Nemec and Kevin Bahl tallied the assists.

    With 12 minutes remaining, Golden Knights forward Jonathan Marchessault scored his 21st of the season to pull his team within one.

    Over the next 10 minutes, Vegas would score three unanswered goals. Marchessault scored his second of the night, followed by Chandler Stephenson netting his eighth of the season along with Nicolas Roy, giving their team a 5-3 lead.

    It was a three-point period for Marchessault, who has earned points in his last five meetings against New Jersey.

    With 15 seconds remaining, Toffoli scored his second from the night after receiving a pass from Dawson Mercer.

    The Golden Knights held a 5-4 lead entering the third period.

    Lazar's second goal of the night, which came nine minutes into the third period, tied the game. With each team earning a point, overtime began. It took 2:35 for Toffoli to complete the hat trick by scoring the game-winning goal.

    The Devils celebrated their 25th win of the season and currently sit in the third wild-card spot with 51 points.

    UP NEXT: The Devils will face the Carolina Hurricanes on Jan. 25 at PNC Arena.
