The Devils are in the fifth wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 31-28-4.

New Jersey Devils interim head coach Travis Green earned his first win on Thursday night when his team beat the St. Louis Blues 4-1 at Prudential Center.

"I got a game puck, which is one that I'll keep for sure," Green said after the game.

The Devils scored the game's opening goal on the power play 13 minutes into the first period. Timo Meier scored his 15th of the season, and Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes assisted. It marked Hughes' 60th point of the season and extended Meier's goal streak to four games.

Meier was moved to the top power-play unit, replacing Tyler Toffoli, who was held out of the game for trade-related reasons.

Roughly three minutes later, Meier scored his second of the game. Ondrej Palat and defenseman John Marino earned the helpers.

New Jersey entered the first intermission with a 16-5 shot advantage and a 2-0 lead.

The Blues pulled within one at the midway mark of the second period. Brandon Saad scored his 18th of the season, extending his point streak to two games. Defensemen Scott Perunovich and Marco Scandella collected the assists.

Meier completed his fifth career hat trick with three minutes remaining in the second period. His snap shot from the slot beat Blues' netminder Jordan Binnington.

The Devils entered the second intermission with a 26-16 shot advantage and a 3-1 lead.

Devils' goaltender Nico Daws made eight saves to secure his team's lead. Erik Haula hit the empty net with a minute remaining in regulation. Meier picked up his fourth point of the night as he was credited with the lone assist.

Daws made 23 saves on 24 shots and finished the game with a .958 save percentage. Palat and Hischier each earned two assists.
