New Jersey Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe gave a further update on his defenseman Brett Pesce, who sustained a lower-body injury against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old completed the game against the defending Stanley Cup champions, but did not suit up against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“He is going to get evaluated, and we will figure out the exact timeline from there,” Keefe said on Wednesday.

Pesce was not on the ice for the team’s Friday afternoon practice, and afterwards, Keefe shared the following.

“Obviously, didn't skate today, and he is not going to be available this weekend,” Keefe told NJD.TV.

New Jersey will host the New York Rangers on Saturday and the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday.

The Devils currently have six healthy defensemen on their roster: Brenden Dillon, Dougie Hamilton, Luke Hughes, Johnathan Kovacevic, Simon Nemec, and Jonas Siegenthaler.

Pesce has appeared in 37 games this season and has seven points (one goal, six assists). In late October, he suffered an upper-body injury that caused him to miss close to two months.

On Sunday, against Detroit, the first 9,000 fans in attendance at Prudential Center will receive a Brett Pesce bobblehead courtesy of RWJBarnabas Health.
